For all the talk of BYOD (bring your own device), there aren't any huge success stories from developers looking to capitalize on the $297 billion enterprise software market.

The primary stumbling block, according to Levie, is the necessity of centralized control over business applications at most enterprises. Gartner has predicted that 25% of enterprises will have their own app stores by 2017 but we haven't quite figured out what that means.

While mobile apps ultimately serve – and are acquired by – the end-user, individuals outside of IT often don’t have the budget or responsibility to bring in or standardize on (paid) applications easily. The whole point of post-PC is speed, efficiency and simplification, yet the way enterprise software is bought today is anything but.

And while there are several companies offering tools for creating and managing internal app stores, they haven't yielded a runaway hit for any particular post-PC developer or application. So when will the enterprise finally get its own Angry Birds?

Why JavaScript will dominate the next generation of sites and apps

The videos from Future Insights Live are up and running on the site, and to celebrate we're sharing one of our amazing keynotes with the world.
